Is natural slate worth it on an exposed coastal roof?
Yes, provided the fixings are right. Slate itself does not mind salt air. What fails is the nail and the batten, so we use stainless fixings and treated battens on anything near the water. That detail matters more than the slate you choose.
Do I need permission to re-roof near Killarney National Park?
Like-for-like replacement is normally exempt. If the property is a protected structure, or sits in an architectural conservation area, changing the material or profile does need permission from Kerry County Council. We flag it at survey and you can check before we order anything.
